Action | Acceleration | Adaptation

Think global, act local.

Our climate is changing. Our world is getting warmer and the impact on societies and sectors is growing. The need to adapt to these new climate extremes is driving actions: to connect challenges to solutions. To further drive and accelerate the urgent action needed, the Global Commission on Adaptation has launched its “Year of Action”, building on their report #AdaptNow and calling for transformative initiatives to be delivered at the Climate Adaptation Summit.

Supported by the Dutch Government, the “Year of Action” offers a platform for change culminating with the online Climate Adaptation Summit on January 25, 2021. The summit coincides with anchoring events held in cooperation with local partners in different places around the world. Key supporting events will be held in Groningen and Rotterdam as well as local, regional, national and international side events to advance the climate adaptation agenda.

Online Climate Adaptation Summit

The online Climate Adaptation Summit is hosted by the Netherlands on January 25, 2021. It will be a state of the art, climate neutral virtual conference, streamed worldwide over 24 hours with (online) anchoring events from cities around the world. It will build on the work of the Commission, delivering enhanced ambition, accelerated actions, and tangible solutions to the problems of a warming world. As the world aims to rebound and emerge better equipped from the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, CAS Online will also provide a unique opportunity for leaders to promote integrated efforts to improve resilience.

Supporting events

Several supporting events (both online and offline) will be held in the run up to and during the Climate Adaptation Summit in the cities of Rotterdam and Groningen, home of the Global Center on Adaptation. Amongst others, Rotterdam will host the Mayors Forum while Groningen will host a Climate Adaptation Design Exhibition, the Youth for Climate Adaptation conference and the Open University on Climate Adaptation.

Side events

For the global movement to succeed, action is needed across all levels of government and society. To drive change, numerous local, regional, national and international side events will be encouraged. More information will be announced soon.
